Description:  Successful prevention agencies will raise funds through a variety of avenues: individual donations, specific campaigns, corporate sponsorships, etc. One avenue for funding that cannot be ignored is seeking, applying for, and securing grant dollars. Applying for grant funding can be overwhelming, especially if you have never done it before. Grant Writing for Prevention Professionals will get you started with an overview of philanthropy in the United States, historically how philanthropy has changed over time, a foundational definition for different types of grants, and the competencies and skills that are essential for every grant professional to possess.

Learning Objectives:

1. Summarize the history of philanthropy in the U.S. and what philanthropy looks like today.
2. Paraphrase a basic definition of the different types of “grants.”
3. Identify the grant professional skills and competencies that every grant professional must possess.
