Description:

Part 1- Understanding the Impact of Trauma: Strategies for Engaging w/ Youth:

This session is the first of a three part series covering Trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences, and Toxic Stress. In this first session, we dive into understanding the basics of what trauma is, what the signs of trauma are, and the fundamentals of toxic stress. After understanding the basics, we review various strategies for how you can support youth.

Learning Objectives:

  • Increase our knowledge of traumatic experiences and their impact on health, behavior, and well-being
  • Enhance our skills to identify signs of trauma and toxic stress in the youth we support
  • Explore and reinforce strategies for engaging with youth to promote healing and to prevent 
    retraumatization

Part 2: Preventing & Addressing Trauma & Toxic Stress:

This session is the second of a three part series covering Trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences, and Toxic Stress. In this second session, we dive into understanding everyday practices that we can teach to help those we serve disrupt a toxic stress response. We will discuss how a greater community network of care can contribute to creating a trauma responsive community. Lastly, we discuss ways to prevent and address trauma and toxic stress through various supportive interventions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore evidence-based strategies and interventions to prevent and reduce toxic stress
  • Develop concrete tools to regulate stress in the moment
  • Learn about how we can build a network of care in our community

Part 3: Building a Healing-Centered & Trauma-Responsive Organization:

This session is the third and final of a three part series covering Trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences, and Toxic Stress. In this final session, we dive into understanding how we can build up organizational capacity to address trauma. We will discuss the ways that trauma can emerge in the workplace, and what secondary trauma is/looks like. We will discuss ways to take care of ourselves, and our team. We will discuss concrete ways to ensure that our organization is trauma responsive.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand key concepts related to trauma in the workplace
  • Examine staff experiences within your organization and identify strategies to support a healthy, resilient 
    workforce
  • Explore aspects of your workplace that can adopt policies and practices in support of a trauma-responsive 
    environment
