Description:
Of the 88 counties in Ohio, 32 are considered to be part of Appalachia. The people, food, music, and culture are unique to this region.  In this training, we will discuss Appalachian Culture’s rich history and the many contributions of this region to Ohio.  We will also seek to understand those who identify as Appalachians as well as how to reach this population best.  Emphasis will be placed on cultural humility and a desire to increase understanding and connection.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify at least two characteristics of Appalachian culture.
  2. Participants will be able to summarize Appalachian arts, music and literature.
  3. Participants will be able to examine at least two ways Appalachian culture may intersect with prevention strategies.
