Description: Employee development is not just important in the for-profit sector. Although these processes tend to be less common in the nonprofit sector, nonprofit and public organizations and their employees can greatly benefit from implementing employee development plans. These intentional plans will help employees better align their career goals to the goals and mission of your prevention organization and ensure that your employees’ vision for advancement fits into the vision of your organization. This session will walk you through the different types and approaches of development plans, the challenges you will face along the way, and some important tips to get your plan moving forward.

  • Define employee development within the context of prevention organizations
  • Identify some of the difficulties and challenges related to employee development
  • Explain why active employee development strategies are important to the viability of prevention organizations

Presenter: Ericka Harney PhD, CAE, CFRE, GPC, CVA
Dr. Ericka Harney has over 21 years of experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, and strategic planning. She is responsible for successful fundraising and grant awards of over $35 million. She has educated thousands, served as a federal grant reviewer, co-founded a social enterprise, and was an executive director. At Harney & Associates, Ericka serves a variety of clients around the country. She is also a National Trainer for Grant Writing USA and an Assistant Professor at Future Generations University. Ericka is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), a Grant Professional Certified (GPC), and a Certified Volunteer Administrator (CVA). Her Ph.D. is in Organizational Leadership concentrating on Nonprofit Leadership from Eastern University. She received her Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Kentucky, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and Bachelor of Science in Communication.
