Media Literacy teaches individuals how to apply critical thinking to media messages. When we are media literate, we understand how media messages shape our culture and society. To be aware of media influence we will need to learn how to decode media messages, acknowledge the influence of those messages on thoughts, feelings, and behavior, and evaluate these messages from multiple points of view.

This educational session will teach participants how to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media in a variety of forms. Participants will discuss the influence media and media literacy has on public health issues.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will analyze media messages.
  • Participants will evaluate media messages.
  • Participants will understand the influence media has on public health issues.
